CSGS student places 3rd in Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow Competition

30th Jul 2024

Congratulations to CSGS Y12 student Dami who came third place from over 600 entries from across the UK in the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow competition in the (16-18) category with her project GLIMPSE.

Through Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung offer anyone aged 16-25 in the UK and Ireland, no matter their background, the chance to develop the skills and confidence to design tomorrow’s solutions. This global initiative, spanning 64 countries and supporting more than 2.6 million young innovators, gives them the opportunity to turn their tech-for-good idea into a reality through expert guidance and Samsung mentoring.

Dami’s entry were smart glasses called GLIMPSE. A pair of smart glasses powered by AI technology to assist people with visual impairments. Through AI cameras and GPS, the system can recognise objects and offer auditory guidance for navigation alongside integrating Optical Character Recognition to facilitate reading.

The finals were held at Samsung’s Kings Cross headquarters in June where Dami had to pitch her idea to the team from Samsung. Dami won £1000 and a new Samsung phone.

Dami is now through to stage 4 of the competition, The Accelerator, which will allow her the opportunity to connect with industry experts and further develop her idea.
